Pelvic floor physio | Sunshine Coast

Along with pregnancy and menopause care, I help women with:

Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) occurs when the bladder, uterus, or bowel descend into the vaginal space. This can be caused by many factors, with women often experiencing heaviness, dragging sensations, or a bulge. Through specialised assessment, pelvic floor retraining, addressing contributing factors (i.e. toileting or exercise strategies) and pessary fitting when appropriate, we can significantly improve symptoms and help you regain confidence in your body.

Endometriosis

Endometriosis-related pelvic pain affects not only your monthly cycle but can impact bladder function, bowel movements, and intimacy. The chronic inflammation and tissue changes often create tight, painful pelvic floor muscles, altered movement patterns, and a sensitised nervous system. Specialised pelvic physiotherapy works alongside your medical management to address muscle tension, calm the nervous system, reduce pain, and restore function through gentle manual therapy, nervous system regulation techniques, and tailored exercises

Diastasis Recti

Diastasis recti, or abdominal separation, occurs when the connective tissue between your abdominal muscles stretches (a normal occurrence in pregnancy to allow bub to grow), creating a gap that may not fully return postpartum. Gentle manual techniques and progressive exercise prescription help to restore abdominal wall strength, improve core control and stability, and reduce the gap over time.

Vulvodynia

Vulvodynia is persistent vulval pain or burning without an obvious cause, making sitting, exercise, wearing tight clothing, or intimacy uncomfortable or impossible. This complex condition often involves overactive pelvic floor muscles, nerve sensitivity, and pain system changes. Using trauma-informed care, gentle desensitisation techniques, and education, we work to reduce pain and help you reclaim comfort in your body.

Incontinence

Bladder leaking during exercise, coughing, sneezing, or on the way to the toilet is common and often dismissed as just part of being a woman. BUT it is never “normal” or something you should accept. Whether you’re experiencing stress incontinence, urge incontinence, or a combination of both, pelvic floor physiotherapy is the first-line treatment recommended before any surgical intervention. Through comprehensive assessment and personalised pelvic floor retraining, most women see significant improvement in their bladder control.

Constipation

Chronic constipation is often related to pelvic floor dysfunction, with gut microbiome health also playing an important role. Left unaddressed, persistent constipation can lead to inflammation & bloating, haemorrhoids, prolapse, and even bladder leaking. Through assessment of your pelvic floor coordination, bowel habits, positioning techniques, and lifestyle factors, we develop strategies to restore normal bowel function and break the constipation cycle.
